[Reminds me of the Star Trek TNG controversy in 1987 when the Ferengi first featured.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fd/Ferengis1.jpg)
Dozens of jwish foundations accused the producer of antisemitism and threatened to sink the show.
The controversy gained such attention that the producer and showrunner were forced to hold a press conference about it.
The producer opened by asking each of the groups to make their points and express their outrage.
When ((( they ))) finished kvetching, the producer simply said, "The Ferengi were based on the worst aspects of humanity - deceitfulness, cowardliness, pride, gluttony, greed and materialism. What made you think they were based on jws?".
< silence >
The issue was never spoken of again.
Ferengi later featured heavily in the Star Trek DS9 show as recurring main characters.

I’ll see if I can find it. They basically used it as a way to avoid being sued for libel when speaking about real people by saying in the books they wrote that the character that was based on a real person they wanted to slander had a small penis. The idea is that nobody wants to be known for having a small penis so they won’t come forward for damages.
