Correction: The very study you cite states white skin genes originated in the Near East, not Europe. That includes ancient Semitic populations long before there were “white Europeans” in the modern sense.
Here’s the full logical breakdown:
The genes SLC24A5 and SLC45A2 regulate melanin production and are associated with lighter skin.
These genes did not originate in Europe but spread into Europe from Western Asia and the Levant, the ancestral home of the Jews and other Semitic peoples.
In other words, lighter skin among Europeans is a result of gene migration from the very region where Israel was located.
From the same study:
“Our findings indicate that skin-lightening alleles spread to Europe from the Near East with Neolithic farming populations.”
So if anything, it proves that Semitic groups had lighter pigmentation alleles first, and Europeans inherited them later.
