It's a commentary on complacency — people neglect what they own because they take it for granted, while the "renter" is held accountable and fears eviction. For example, employees work harder than the business owner for fear of losing their jobs, while the business owner neglects or squanders his opportunities. Also, those who inherit wealth don't often appreciate it as much as those who worked to earn it.
Likewise, how many Whites take America for granted? *"Oh, sure. Let those stupid immigrants pick my veggies and clean my toilets. I'm White. I'll always have America. Let all those shitskins in here to work for me. I'll never be outnumbered or ousted from this land."* 🙄
