As an aside, it amuses me how zoomers idolize the 80's through the synthwave aesthetic, when it reality this is what the 80's actually was: gray boxes.
Some of them were black. Lots of them were made of metal, and a few even had wood. Today, everything is made of plastic unless it's a "rare earth" metal, in which case it can't be plastic. The 80s were the last, dying gasp of the artisan. We are now in the age of the bean counters, where everything is undertaken on a cost-benefit analysis.
Malls were better when there were dedicated electronic stores. Now all electronics have been consolidated into a Sony/Apple store that can't even fix half the problems you'd visit them for anyway. Also there were a lot les nons in those days.
Having purchased a tablet recently, trying to disable all the bullshit has been a challenge.
Taping over the cameras was a good first step. Then I discovered there is a second front-facing camera in the bezel at the side. I've covered the mics as best I can. The latest challenge is the fingerprint scanner on the power button. Some models use ultrasonic pulses to map the topography of your fingerprints and even pores, it's absolutely insane.
I'm thinking some aluminum tape should fix that one.
I have nothing whatsoever to hide, but the tech jews can fuck right off anyway.
