There has absolutely been an effort since Vatican II to "castrate" the Christian spirit.
There's no difference between "normies" who sedate themselves with the endless distractions of today (porn, games, social media, etc.) and the Christian who's sedated by an endless barrage of infantilizing, patronizing tones of "God's love" and of "endless forgiveness". It's all the same pseudo-therapeutic sentimentalism of New Age "gurus" on late-night cable and televangelist scammers. *"God loves you, goy, no matter how ineffectual you make yourself!"*
Nothing is ever said of Rightouse Anger, of God's Judgement, or our duty to Christ and His Sacrifice on the Holy Cross. The "modern" Christian has been groomed to take, take, take from God with no expectation to offer up to Him anything in return, as deficient as our service to Him may be. Our ancestors in the catacombs of Rome wouldn't recognize us today!
