You invent things you have a need for. Who needs a wheel when you and the boys head out to hunt food on foot every day? Who needs a wheel when your wife carries the water jug on her head 20 miles/ day? Who needs a wheel when you have an ox or zebra to carry things?

And who needs a written language when you have nothing to say about anything?
