and what can ~~i~~ we do to ward ~~myself~~ ourselves against that shit. it's annoying because at least in my case they often know exactly which buttons to press to get me worked up.

I think of it as training. A lot of the arguments at least *seem* to be persuasive so it's good practice to take them apart to figure out where they fail.
