I second this, it should be not only bigger news but here of all places should deserve to know this.
Why do we assume that the devil is male? Because of typical western machismo. "There's no way a female could rival God!" Why not? Maybe that's why the devil approached Eve, because they share the same thinking. I'm being serious. I genuinely believe that once we "de-gender" evil, we start to understand more about the evil around us here on Earth. Even if God did assign a gender to the devil, it would make sense that it would rebel against that too.
God is understood as male because He is the Progenitor of the world and all existence. The seed of creation comes first from the man, which woman receives. Woman gives birth, but not first without the man's seed. So it makes sense to think of God as male.
