Serious question, how would you see a society contributing to shared goods and services? I understand a dead-end street could be designed and financed by the people living on that block, but at some point it’s not as simple as let’s all get together and decide how to pay for this street or that hospital. That’s what a government (should) does.

it's simple: does the govt tangibly do things that help me and the people around me with the money i give them? i'll pay taxes, no problem. maybe grumble a bit if they're above 20% but if i regularly see construction workers out and about fixing potholes i'll see why.

do they use that money to buy hookers, cocaine, and to hire israeli firms to write articles about how i deserve to be dead? well mr. taxman, i make 0 dollars a month, i've nothing to give you.

Huh? What do you mean?

Look at anything that’s not run by the government and it works fine and in most cases better than any “service” the government provides.
