Leftists are conformists. To them consensus is truth. And consensus is what "experts" and government tell them, not what the people around them actually believe. Leftists are total slaves to propaganda. That's why we call them NPCs.
Once you understand this you can see the don't need excuses, they don't need reasons. Nothing about their world view needs to be logical or coherent.
This would actually be fine if our rulers were just out for themselves and not actually enemy agents. The leftists would happily live their lives and pay their taxes thinking everything is fine. The problem is that when your government and media is taken over by it's enemies leftist will fight to the death to defend the cancerous enemy who is openly destroying them.

This is where they fall back on old reliable: not caring one bit about not being hypocrites. That and hating indigenous Europeans and their descendants.
