You should start with making it, there are youtube vids, search "DIY body armor"
I would rather have cheap armor for 10 of my friends and family than 1 real set for myself. If we had the money that it wasn't an issue we wouldn't be talking about it
If you can afford a gun you can afford some armor. It's like 500 bucks. And no offense but without some serious research I would not trust home made armor. Even if you can shoot it at the range and prove it stops what you want it to, there's still fragmentation to worry about.
