It did seem like a reality until the one important question was asked: Who is to blame when a self driving vehicle causes a crash?
Tesla has been caught disabling self driving before a crash simply to be able to deny responsibility when it could have braked and lessened damage.
Not even. Computers just suck at driving. Sure they're decent on a highway, but do you really think an autonomous semi could reliably deliver to a dense urban area?
I also remember the media telling us 10 years ago that automated driving will replace truckers by 2025.
