It's not that drastic. I've heard only 40% of men reproduce. Cucking is another potential cause of the unsuccessful 40%. This can be seen in the relatively low diversity of Y chromosomes.

Our genetic data shows twice as many female ancestors as male ones. Half of men don't pass on their genes, for what reason is not as clear
