My main issue with this is this will end up causing race mixing. Religion and race are very tied together. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but generally white equals Christian and brown equals Muslim. A white woman for example who converts to Islam will not be allowed to marry a man that is non-muslim, and it is highly unlikely that she will find someone in the same ethnic group her that is muslim as well.

The only way to avoid race mixing while having the same religion would be to have that religion ingrained in that society for a long period of time such as modern day Turkey (which was natively white) and the Balkans which became Muslim due to invasions.
