The britishers came in 17th century. Dutch and Portuguese before that. Islam came to Sindh in 6th-7th century and we held the Arabs off until 10th century, when the Central Asian muslims invaded. Kashmir was majority Hindu for 500 years after the first Muslim invasion. So we were fighting them for a long time.

The [Maratha Empire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77vRyWNqZjM) and Rajputs were also fighting the Mughals and kicking their ass. Indian kings were not 100% united that is why we were defeated. The britishers used dividing and rule stratagey.
