It was, and its probably why Luther ended up so angry with them later in life when he realized he got duped. Of course, he was too arrogant to admit he was wrong and try and reconcile with the Church, and even if he did, the movement had already taken on a mind of its own beyond his control. Earlier in his life, when Luther was beginning to start the protestant movement, he went to the jews for help in understanding scripture, and their "help" is exactly what he got, which is why most protestant bibles are based on the curated Masoretic text and exclude all the books that prove the validity of Catholicism (specifically in the Old testament, but Luther initially also wanted to remove a bunch of the new testment too, likely at the prompting of the jews he was working with, though thankfully he didnt, otherwise Protestantism would have degenerated even faster than it already has, and the jews' hold over the west would be an unbreakable iron grip instead of an illusion accomplished via propaganda and deceit)
