My only issue with trades is I think it would be soul sucking to fix HVACs and plumbing for the general population. It feels too much like I would be perpetuating the Nig Spicy Cycle and fixing toilets for boomers so they don't have to learn to fix shit for themselves

Why do you think trades tend to charge through the nose? I don't feel the least bit bad charging Boomers $50/hr to paint a deck.

No, it's not. But painting a deck should be minimum wage work for teenagers and I can still charge this without anyone batting an eye.

You get a 14 year old kid to paint the deck, pay him $20 an hour and pocket the rest (after expenses).

In a few years the 14 year old kid wises up and starts his own painting business doing the same thing.

This is how it is done: you pay by training!

See, I just couldnt do it. Painting some shitheads deck. He can do it himself! I paint my own deck...

At least with farming I rarely see the customer and if I do they are usually another farmer or starting farmer...

See, I don't mind painting a deck (or backframing a basement, or replacing a roof). I get a ton of satisfaction from doing jobs properly, being able to look at it when I'm finished and saying to myself "That looks damn fine".

That's why I charge hourly instead of by the job, so I can make sure I'm satisfied with the result.

HVAC is not all residential stuff. Commercial HVAC will never see you dealing with a residential situation.
