Now that you say it, Mussolini was brought down by a Fascist Council and the King himself. Hitler never had that.

There is a great rescue story that should have a fucking movie made about it. Operation Oak, Where Otto Skorzeny (who went to work for Israel after the war) liberated Mussolini from his prison with 16 men. There was a Napoleon moment back from exile, where the guards refused to fire on the rescuers at Mussolini's behest.

Mussolini shared his sentiment to be no blood shed over him and the defense let the Germans whisk him away. He was feeling quite a bit sorry for himself, and I think both sides pitied him.

The Italian social Republic was the only time mussolini got to implement his vision of fascism. Although it obviously never amounted to much because the country lasted for 2 years and was at war the entire time.

Italy really should have ideally been the Italian Social Republic from 1922-. Though I reckon that murdering the house of savoy (though they would deserve it for being traitorous freemasons) would have been bad optics, as they were popular in the Italian public and celebrities in the press at the time.

(Allegedly) mussolini had a plan to launch a coup on the king of Italy. Although this fell through because ww2 happened.

Italy also had issues with its incompetent fucking retards for generals from ww1 staying in offices and commanding Italian armies again in ww2, because of good old favoritism and the fact that they were royalists.

In Il Duces defense , he told Hitler to wait until 1943. He had severe industrial problems, and his navy was bankrupting him. I love WW2 through the eyes of logistics and economics, it really makes sense of things.
