Nice job placing in Putnam. I saw an example of the type of problems offered on the exam and said "No." Real analysis made me wish I was never born. Maybe those who work in applied math will have an advantage in prestige because everyone loves better technology, whereas abstract math is of interest only to other mathematicians. How many people on earth right now can even appreciate the content of Scholze's lecture?
