I think she wasnt complaining about men with facial hair, note she said "men *wear* beards", implying the facial hair is fake and they arent real men (and possibly calling them faggots too). I believe historically a beard was basically something you had to earn as part of manhood.
That's why I named myself after Caesar's general from Fallout New Vegas. I'd rather have a Santa beard, but Legate Lanius does have the short beard you speak of.
Personally, I don't care about who I'd fight, only that I fight. A tactical patch sums up my philosophy on that "I don't believe in anything, I'm just here for the violence". I'd see no point in shooting the one sending me to fight
