This isn't true. Serbia tried to compromise, although how much they were actually willing to compromise is debated among historians.

I think it's fair to say that Austria-Hungary started WWI.

Most of my ww1 knowledge comes from school.

They gloss over the finer points, making it seem like Austria declared war on Serbia right after the assassination with no details of what happened in between.
