The smurfs were always based. A monoracial village where everyone is the same and works together for the betterment of the village, led by herr fuhrer papa smurf. Smurfette is aryan blonde. Gargamels cat is named Azrael (like Israel). The visual appearance of gargamel doesn't need to be commented. In the original cartoon gargamel wanted to catch a smurf because if it touches fire it turns to gold.

The whole thing was a giant metaphor from day one.
