For all that people claim about me to the contrary, I really, *really* try to keep my personal feelings out of what I post. They simply don’t like when I’m realistic (based on the last century of evidence), and they project their own emotional responses to what they read onto me, as though what I am saying my own emotional *desire.* Like I would *want* my people exterminated from the face of the Earth without even pretending to fight back.
With that out of the way, I’d *like* them to be real. It’d be nice. It’s the level of something we should have had 60 years ago, so I don’t know how much good it will do at this point, but it’d be cool if they weren’t federal agents or a honeypot or whatever.
As for me, I don’t subscribe to the concept of hope or heroism anymore. I believe Great Man Theory was exterminated, operationally, in 1945. It would take a Carrington Event, supervolcano eruption, or significant asteroid impact for Great Man Theory to be capable of existing again. *Then* we could begin to consider heroes as a possibility. Not before.
And therefore I only “don’t support” them. I don’t oppose them, I don’t advocate for them. I wouldn’t join them, but I also wouldn’t necessarily stop anyone from joining them… if they had a local chapter where the person in question lived *and friends/neighbors that person has known his entire life* are already members.
