It'll never happen in America unless and until we restore God in our public and national life. However, as you probably know, there's AI-generated porn now. There's a small group of lawyers in my State who represent victims of trafficking. They're working with legislators to draft a new federal law to include AI-generated images. You'd think the current laws would apply, but the way they're written (the way anyone would have written them before AI) ties the offense to a victim. Obviously, there is no human victim with AI-generated filth, so there lies the debate: does it still count as a punishable offense? They want to get ahead of some monster walking on a legal technicality by fixing the language now. I'll be posting links here once they publish their petition.

The AI model would have had to be trained with examples, so even that stuff originates in the harm of actual people.

I hadn't thought of that, but I guess that makes sense. It just goes to highlight the point that the "grey zones" of the current laws can (potentially successfully) be exploited if one such case went to trial. But again, the bureaucracy never moves as fast as the technology.
