One of the things that made me want to pay more attention to the "unofficial" accounts from that time were the mysterious circumstances around the death of US General Patton, and how his views altered radically while he was overseeing German reconstruction post-war.

From what I've seen it looked like a collaborative effort between pre-Mossad/CIA and the NKVD.
