this was also the guy who defended someone else who burned a synagogue and defied theodosius the first, the last emperor of a unified roman empire. he called it a house of impiety that, should it be rebuilt by christians or with christian money, would be called something like 'temple of impiety, erected by forced plunder from christians', or something like it at least, i dont remember the specific line
