In 2001 Bill Clinton's DoJ issued an arrest warrant for him because he played Spasky in Yugoslavia, against Clinton's e.o. sanctions

he was arrested in Japan and spent months in custody, when the US revoked his passport

eventually Iceland gave him asylum

he never returned to the US
