Shows how little journalists knows about geography and reality. Small islands in the pacific is very import dependent on important gods like food. Once war breaks out, any shipments from the mainland will be disrupted and people will turn into cannibalism.
Places like Greenland might survive a bit longer, because the local Danes will ignore the bans on Whale meat and go out fishing, just like the Inuits. This in turn will make the whales go extinct, the reason those laws exist in the first place, and eventually Greenland will turn into canibalism too.
Switzerland? Yes, it's neutral, but it's right in the center of Europe. In case of nuclear war were major cities around are bombed, you're basically fucked in Switzerland too.
New Zeeland may look safe, nobody would bother to bomb those islands. But just like Greenland supplies will eventually run out. It's a small island with high population density.
South Argentina may be safe, low population, nobody would bother o bomb that area, reasonably fertile land.
Iceland may have access to cheap reliable energy and not be too affected by the nukes, but it's still import dependent, not much fertile land, no forest. You'd have to go vegan and live off conserved food.
Probably best to find a large forest somewhere with low population density around. Forests are full of wildlife and firewood as well as construction materials for a settlement. Roots prevent mudslides by binding up the earth, it swallows the rain to avoid flooding, blocks some of the worst winds and cleans the air. The birds will reveal if someone is trying to sneak up on your camp.
