The greatest architectural feat of subsaharan Africa was "Great Zimbabwe". It's a 'fortress' made out of loose stacked rocks, with no mortar, because they never invented it. And it was built when Europeans were crossing oceans on galleons.
The only two things impressive about it is that they seemed to have mastered some primitive degree of stonemasonry, and that it's mostly still standing today.
