We "civilized" people have arbitrary and I believe pointless rules for warfare. We would do well to behave more like the savage in war, and stop pretending there is anything noble about it.
That kind of thinking got the Germans in trouble in both WWI and WWII. The Anglo-Saxons were not playing war. They were *fighting* a war. The Germans went way too easy on them, and so they lost. We had no druthers about using nukes, for heaven's sake!
