I wonder if blacks, while living in their natural habitat, have evolved an ability to filter out chirping sounds of insects such as crickets to better hear sounds from dangerous animals or to have a better night's sleep. Maybe that's why they don't hear the chirp?

Interesting. Maybe the chirp is comforting, as everything goes silent when predators are around.
