Sorry jew haters, not more laser cutting acrylic dead jews.
Welcome to the future of ownership even in the maker-space.
Fortunately -- fuck Glowforge and there are hacked work arounds for their software in dev and this will just move people to other far cheaper brands with more accessible components.
Burn in hell any and all maker companies that side with censorship.
No they get away with it because the legal system isn't made for peasants. If everybody started reading terms and protesting them nothing would change.

Doesn't work that way. Glowforge uses proprietary software online so there is no offline. Hackers have struggled to make open source alternatives without trading parts.

Warranty, mostly.
They are expensive and easily fucked up machines and they make self repair basically impossible, so it was their own way of monitoring and maintaining use. They are basically fire hazards for etsy making soccer moms is how they are pitched.
Meanwhile ayh have had to mod 3 of them over the years bcz they are a shit design but years ago there was few in the game. Alternative was cheap Chinese ones that were high maintenance and even more dangerous :)
That has improved lately. More open sourced machines with better access and software available which ayh hope clean up and bury Glowforge.
Yep. But TBF this Glowforge was free and they are made reasonably well to where unless ayh require some thing more robust, not much point in shaking the boat. Ayh always monitored for hackers trying to create their own firmware. Now with this shit tho.. time for a change.
Yep. There is no coincidence that the months before consumer deployment of rebranded data tunnelling and censorship, the whole world larped investing billions in to anti-misinfo. Bots were always about controlling information.
Overpriced shit anyway, acrylic cutouts aren't that useful for anything fun. Get an FDM printer and none of this matters since the firmwares aren't remotely controlled, and you can just cut sheet metal for flat parts.
Ayh have 9 FDM printers, 1 resin printer, 2 laser cutters, 2 CNCs, enough equipment and supplies to stock 2 complete wood/metal/electronics/craft maker-spaces or one bitchen workshop (that ayh wish ayh had space for) -- and access to thrice more that. That said --> ayh like acrylic bcz when ayh want a case for a project, ayh have it cut in 2 minutes, not the 4+ hours on a printer. And while 99% of every thing ayh have is open sourced, when some one gives you a glowforge for free, you use it and take the down sides -- until they go too far.
