My theory from this and other documents would be that he was mainly a well-funded agent of REVOLUTION. Through Protestantism his role was to remove the King's devine Christian rule and duty to protect the well being of his subjects. What was promised was democracy but what was delivered was just a politician placed in a figurehead kingly role. A Godly King substituted for a controllable commoner.
    
One can argue the merits of the King's actions. Cromwell banned all holidays and celebrations. Things that make the peasant life joyous. Only obedience to the old book shall take up your time peasants. Replacing the living Gospel of Christ with the harsh judgement of the Old Trah. The fact Cromwell led campaigns that seized territory and stacked their neighbors' corses like cordwood as a matter of policy is a big change from the king's Godly protectorate that was one expected from a ruler. No, its all about **Power**. But not power to the people he pretended to endorse.

This seems like a cozy option. I'd have to do a deep dive to know for sure. These travelers fit my family temperament. Both side of my family has been in the States for 300+ years. So, we are Amerikaaners.

There has been talks of ethnic villages and homesteads where one removes themselves by hiding away. The Amish have it right. Trade with the outside world when the situation makes sense. That would not surprise me. Property taxes, licenses and regulations. There are certain things one cannot get away without no matter how one tries. But the Amish know better than most normies on how to go around many things in the system. I've heard building regulations are mostly ignored. I'd have to look deeper but I assume they do a lot of sharing and bartering within their immediate clans.
 
Many no longer farm because of the price of farmable land they are heavily into being crafters and storekeepers. Technically they can suffice without global supply chains. They are more collapse resistant.

The Amish don't care about 'feelings' and clout as such. They are very straightforward. Family, work, community, God. They do without a lot of clutter and distractions. They build. They have a hard but satisfying life.
