I hate to be that guy, because i dislike modern Ukraine. But the trident is a very old Slavic symbol that originates with king Volodymr of the Kievan Rus. The Kievan Rus are the ones that removed the Khazars from Southern Ukraine in the first place, as another commenter has noted.
Similar symbols have been found on khazar tamgas, but the symbol as it concerns Ukraine is of the Rurik dynasty and the Kievan Rus. The first use of the *modern* symbol was the Ukrainian people's Republic, an anti Bolshevik vassal of the Russian Republic.
