Privacy Policy
At arete.network, privacy of our visitors is one of our main priorities.
1. Information stored about visitors
Under some circumstances we may temporarily enable standard web access logging for debugging purposes. These logs may contain the visitors IP address, the page visited, and the status code returned from our web server. These logs will be erased as soon as the technical issue is resolved and shall not be used for any other purpose. We do not otherwise store any information about visitors.
2. Cookies
Like most other websites, arete.network uses 'cookies'. Cookies are small files that a website transfers to your computer's hard drive through your Web browser that enables the service to recognize your browser and remember certain information, such as user preferences and the logged in session. We do not use cookies for analytics, advertisement or tracking purposes, with the exception of a random identifier string (called "persistentID"). This identifier is created and logged only on account registration and allows us to mitigate abuse of our services by identifying any alternate accounts a user might have.
3. Information stored about registered users
Users are required to provide a user name and password to sign up. Upon registration we store the username, hashed password, hashed IP address used to create the account and a random identifier stored in a cookie.
4. Account deactivation and deletion
When a user deactivates their account (accessible from the user settings) we permanently and irreversibly delete all content submitted, along with their message history and any sensitive information.
After deactivation a user can decide to permanently delete their account and all remaining information stored in the database. This option is available after a certain time has passed since deactivation.
The time required is 48 hours for regular users and 90 days for moderators.
You may do so by using this form.
Accounts terminated for violating our Terms of Service cannot be permanently deleted, but we will still remove any sensitive data, private messages and publicly submitted content.
4. Consent
By using our website, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to our Terms of Service.
