So in an effort to think up more sustainable footwear, I stumbled upon a concept of a sandal that goes over shoes. This was being marketed towards "sneakerheads" I think, or people with nice shoes. My use case thought with this design would be, you put on the "sandal" to walk some distance (maybe you need to walk a mile each way to an event) and then you take them off for light walking arount at a destination. This would allow the "sandal sole" to be worn out faster than the shoe itself.
 
I've looked in to the idea of "resoling shoes" but this looks complicated. So I was wondering instead if you could just have a sole that attaches as a sandal (sandal sole) that could be disposed of or reused when it gets used up. Or you could design shoes this way where the sole attaches like a clip in sandal so they're easily replaceable.
 
Redundant concept? Not useful? Got an alternative idea?

There's that buyitforlife subreddit, I was wondering if anyone has any good general recommendations of items they've purchased that seem to last a long time, or for life, or for multiple lifetimes.

So I've identified this is an issue off and on, my strategy for reducing the problem is to record things to search on a search engine to do at a later time if ever (instead of searching for it, opening up tabs, and then leaving them be accumulated). Or to bookmark open tabs and come back to them.
 
Anyone else run in to this problem and how do you manage it?

So while the discussions.app site is getting trolled with some "human manure" (humanure) posts, I thought I would mention that I think composting human manure is kind of an interesting and important topic.
 
It's kind of like manure from any other animal, full of nutrients. Figuring out how to compost it can close the loop and reduce dependence on a waste water treatment facility.
 
I think it just composts like other things, but you need to let it compost a lot longer to make sure harmful things are destroyed. And might want to spread it on something that's not a food source. Although anecdotally I've heard of people getting treated sewage fertilizer and it growing tall crops.

There is some dispute as to whether this represents a horse or indeed a dragon. There is a "Dragon Hill" nearby which is reputed to be where St George slayed the dragon itself.
   
For us to to still be able to see this now in 2015, means it must have been maintained by at least 120 generations of human beings... ensuring it didn't get overgrown by grass... and the chalk was recut/refilled. Amazing. :-)
