The Sonnenrad was a symbol used by the Celts and ancient Germans. There are a lot of articles online about it. Mostly it was appropriated by different folks trying to reconnect with the Ancient Norse Ways. Maybe someone else has a book about it that explores its ancient meaning.
I feel like it's some sort of occultic version of the Julewheel. That's just because I haven't been able to find anything old concerning it.
