This is probably the most realistic approach. Basic armor because bows and arrows are not useless weaponry. They're fast, and they're aggressive. Funnily enough the only time they've ever had any type of peace is when they were given gibs.

Estimated population is only about 2-400 (sort of a shame to kill them all, though; they’d be of massive interest to geneticists) and the island is only ~20 square miles. Maybe give the squad a drone too, but it wouldn't be that hard to get rid of them all.
