If you're actually talking about merit, you don't need someone to tell you who is the best; reality does that for you.
Is academia a meritocracy? No, because someone needs to tell you if you're doing well. How about capitalism? No, because it's based on usury and who you know is more important than what you do. Democracy? Again, people decide who wins, not reality.
Obviously, "true meritocracy has never been tried" because total purity is impossible in an impure world. The same can be said for any other system. But we can still see the superior results of systems that value merit over those that don't.

The issue is that it isnt real meritocracy, because in a real meritocracy, whites and asians would completely dominate (in fact, America *was* a meritocracy before FDR seized power and browns and jews started complaining about "muh racism", when in reality the reason they werent succeeding is because both are lazy. "White Supremacy" is jewish code for actual meritocracy.
What the jews want is a nepoticracy, where who you know is all that matters, and (((networking))) is the only way to find employment.
