What is the purpose of a temple? What happens in them?

*Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?*

Place your sin upon the alter, which is your heart, and destroy it as a holocaust. Give praise to the Great God who created you and all things. He alone is God of gods, the Great God of Heaven whom the pagans speculated about, the Holy one who wrought from nothing even the elements themselves.

No, sacrificing was a pre christ way to atone for sins, by placing them on an innocent animal, showing repentance.
After christs death, the covenant was fulfilled and sacrificing became null, as Jesus became our eternal sacrifice.

So what part of "sacrifice your sin" triggered you so much?

The act of sacrifice didn't atone them of their sins. It was their obedience to the Almighty God that provided fruit. As Jesus said "the Sabbath is made for man, not man for the Sabbath." And as the Prophet Isaias relayed to the Hebrew "Heaven is my throne and the Earth is my footstool, what house shall ye build for me?"

It was a spiritual exercise that they began to take literally.
