I believe Game of Thrones made an attempt to destigmatize incest. At first it was depicted as a corruption. The Lannister twins murdered people to keep it a secret, it drove the Targaryens to madness, that one savage who kept his daughters as a harem was a literal demon worshiper, etc. But towards the end (when they ran out of book material to adapt) the incest took on a completely different tone. The Lannisters were given a Romeo and Juliet romantic death, and the revelation of who Jon Snow's mother was came as he was balls deep in his aunt (none of the characters reacted negatively to this). Thank goodness the last few seasons were such dogshit it ruined the cultural relevance of the show.

I read those books but I hate TV.

Due to cultural osmosis, I do understand what you are talking about though, despite th' fact that I have watched next to zero TV in th' last few years.
