I know Zuck takes a lot of flack for just blowing with the cultural winds of the moment.
But there is something I belief of a lot of these Silicon Valley tech founders. They have genuine meritocratic techno libertarian instincts, but they want to be apolitical and centrist, and just focus on technology and the product. But what happens if they naturally get surrounded by HR cunts and young leftists and the like as part of turning their startup into a big business. Then they are surrounded by hyper-leftist hyper-feminine totalitarian voices. This distorts their sense of what the "apolitical centrist position" looks like. They "mediate" their positions to the far left because from their perch, that's the center. But, freed from the illusory consensus built around them by subverters, they will take a truer centrist (and more right wing) position. Obviously, the cage of leftist Wormtongues around them will be furious, but fuck them.
Things like the Bud Light scandal and Trump winning the popular vote open their eyes and free them from that illusory leftist cage. This may be too optimistic, and I don't advocate for full forgiveness or trust of founders who belatedly make this kind of move, but I do think this may be what's happening with Zuck. This implies that this is at least somewhat genuine, and reflective of a powerful shift on the overton window, even if it doesn't mean Zuck is our new hero.
Yes, that's the other thing. Even if people like this are just crass opportunists reading the winds, it's a good sign that the winds are blowing that way at all, and them bending this way is good for us.
